Senior Optical System Engineer | Bridging Physics & Industry #
For over a decade, I have been working at the intersection of Physics, High-Tech Systems, and Optical Engineering. My career has evolved from developing world-class laser spectroscopy methods in academia to designing industrial-grade optical solutions at Demcon Focal.
🛠️ Current Focus at Demcon Focal #
As an Optical System Engineer, I contribute to the design and realization of complex opto-mechatronic and vision systems. Working within the multidisciplinary teams at Demcon, my focus is on:
- Laser-based Systems: Designing beam delivery and conditioning units for high-precision applications.
- Precision Optical Design: Moving from concept and ray-tracing to robust, manufacturable prototypes (one-offs and small series).
- System Architecture: Defining optical budgets and cross-disciplinary interfaces for high-end instruments.
🎓 Academic Roots & Research #
Before joining Demcon, I was a Post-Doc at Radboud University (Nijmegen). My research centered on the development of state-of-the-art Trace Gas Detection systems. Using advanced laser spectroscopy, I created sensors capable of:
- Real-time measurements with sub-ppb (parts-per-billion) sensitivity.
- Application in diverse fields like Plant Physiology, Medicine, and Atmospheric Science.
- Bridging the gap between complex laser physics and practical biological discovery.
🔬 Technical Expertise #
- Optical Design: ZEMAX, lens system assembly, and alignment.
- Laser Technology: QCLs, OPOs, and Fiber-based systems.
- Metrology: Sub-micron surface measurements and high-speed sensing.
- Engineering: Opto-mechanical integration and signal processing.
